Thriller Editing Update
When
editing the thriller together I came across a big hurdle which I
thought would have taken me several hours to resolve and would have
put me and the rest of the group behind by a lot.
This
was due to the update on the programme IMovie in which I am using to
edit the thriller.
This
update caused me to loose all of the work that I had done over the
past week. however instead of panicking I imported all of the footage
again and started from the beginning.
Even
though I knew this was going to take me a long time to make up what
was lost I was about to shine some light on the bad situation because
the new update aloud me to do several things which I was unable to do
before and I believe that these little things that I have been able
to incorporate into the thriller will help to import it dramatically.

Outtakes from first set of filming
Whilst filming we had our good takes and bad takes. In this case i put together a variety of our bad takes into a short video so that the audience are able to see the journey we have taken to create our thriller.

Some Location Images
![]() |

The area where I live is a reconstructed mental hospital estate therefore the buildings have an eery, creepy edge to them. Therefore we thought that in the dark we would be able to create the isolated, scary atmosphere we want to create. There are old fashioned street lights and decaying forests on the estate which will also help us achieve our overall goal.

Changes to the thriller
We thought that we would change the idea from a cult to
black magic because a cult is a lot more intense and hard to explain whereas
black magic because people will be more familiar with black magic as it has
been used in many TV shows and other thriller films.

Selfies on set
This tweet enables us as a production company to engage with our audience in a fun modern way. "Selfies" are very popular at the moment and are the trend and appear everywhere. Therefore it shows we are up to date with our target audiences lingo and interests.

Marking other students work
Marking other students work
- The most effective part of the thriller is the music which the group had made. The music used diegetic sound such, this being of the nursery rhyme ‘ring a roses’. This helped to make the music appropriate for use in a thriller movie. The music starts off soft then builds up this creates tension on the viewer which gives a better effect of the viewer.
· The use of the makeup and costume used also fits the expectations of thriller. The costume and makeup has a big effect on the audience as it helps to explain the story and the life of the character.
· The use of the camera control is very good which helps make the thriller more realistic and have a better outcome on the viewer’s reactions. The camera angles used and the editing used were also very well done and the video was smooth to watch.
· The title ‘solemn’ is what you expect for a thriller title as it draws the audience in as you know that something terrible is to happen which also has a greater effect on the audience.
· The acting of the little girl is very good as she is always calm and used good body language as well as facial expressions. This will have a good effect on the viewer which will make it a good thriller.
I would personally give this thriller a mark of 54 because according to the mark scheme editing was used the meaning is apparent to the viewer and making selective and appropriate use of shot transactions and other effects.

Focus Group
This is our focus group, we selected a four teenagers two of which are male and two which are female we did this because male and female have different opinions on a variety of different things such as their movie choices. We did this so that we could get a range of different opinions on a variety of different questions about thriller movies in general.

Mood Boards
Setting Mood Board
being a desolated dark road, a spooky, isolated house, a gloomy graveyard, an eerie basement and a derelict tunnel. I feel that these settings will create suspense and tensionbecause they are remote and lonely which will enhance the helplessness of the character being isolated with no chance of rescue.
Character Mood Board
I have chosen these particular villain characters as I feel
their appearances are daunting and could star in a thriller/horror. Other
common characters could be criminals, ghosts/demons, anonymous beings and
obviously an innocent victim/victims or maybe deserving victims.
Secondary Research
Whilst in the build-up to confirming our final idea, I decided to do some second hand research in the attempt to find some good concepts for our film. I used websites such as;
And search engines such as Google, Yahoo etc.
I found ideas4writers the most useful as it had hundreds of
rough examples of short thriller films. It helped us, to get more ideas flowing
within the group and we came up with new little things to add to our main idea.
We also looked at the opening few minutes of the thriller movie Seven. I have
picked a certain part to concentrate on and talk about.
We saw that in the opening of Seven, it used quite psychotic
themes throughout with a man using a blade to take off his finger prints, which
suggests that this man has committed a crime and is trying to get rid of
evidence (see below.) Also, the main colour was black which clearly has negative
connotations relating to death etc. The sounds and music used creates a scary,
eerie atmosphere for the viewer and really sets the mood and tone for the whole
film. The lighting and theme is dark which suggests to several things to the
audience for example, the unknown, hidden etc. All of these things come together and produce an unnerving mood for the audience, instantly giving them an idea of what to expect

Evaluation of Prelim
Evaluation of Prelim
We didn't face many problems in pre-production and we all agreed on what shots to use and the location of our filming. Our story board allowed us to move from shot to shot smoothly. We decided that Jack would direct and be the camera man whilst Billie and I would star in the prelim. Once we had decided everyone's role in the production we went to our chosen location, being the upstairs corridor of our humanities block. We chose this location due to how spacious it is and its diversity allowing us to use a variety of different camera angles and shots.
Unlike pre-production, many problems arose during the production of our prelim. After getting permission from the head of humanities to use their building to film we then began production. We decided our first shot would be a mid shot which is then followed by a wide shot showing me walk through the door on the other side creating smooth continuity with in our prelim, this is also known as the invisible art meaning the audience is not aware of it. We realized when looking at our first few shots they had been filmed portrait instead of landscape meaning we had to re-do them which caused slight delay but did not majorly effect us. We then had to shoot me walking down a long corridor and I found it very difficult to stay serious at the beginning and this made it difficult to get the shot we wanted but I then pulled myself together and it was no longer a problem whilst filming. There were minor delays whilst filming due to wandering staff and activity in the surrounding class rooms however we realized these were issues we would have to be patient with. Apart from these unavoidable delays production was not to difficult,
Post-production was the most challenging as editing wasn't as straight forward as anticipated and when seeing the result of the editing I realized errors that I then had to return to and re-edit. Finding how challenging editing is has made me realize that it is important to leave plenty of time to edit our thriller opening as it will not be fully effective the first time we edit. Once I got the hang of editing it wasn't too difficult however I felt a lot of frustration whilst editing as it was not going right the first time. Jack suggested that we remove our 360 degree shot as it interrupted the continuity of the clip and we all agreed with this suggestion. After editing the shots and putting them together I decided to add a final touch being the soundtrack just so we could try and build tension as this is something we will have to achieve in our thriller opening. The soundtrack is not ideal and is effective to some extent but has made us realize we need to be very selective and critical when choosing our music and use of sound as it is very important.

Prelim
Here is our original prelim and our new and improved prelim. As you can see our 360 degree shot has been removed as we felt it disrupted the smoothness of our continuity editing. Making and editing our prelim proved to be a very helpful project as it allowed us to explore and practice the production of movie. We faced minor difficulties but none that were impossible to overcome and we also performed well as a team and cooperated successfully.
